David Ledbetter tossed perhaps the worst game of his career, but it was his uncanny ability to make right pitch at the right time, combined with the stingy defense and timely hitting of his teammates that put Heritage Christian in rare company to win its second consecutive Class 2A baseball state championship Saturday at Victory Field.

Heritage Christian did not get many hits, but the ones it did manage against the ace on the Scecina Memorial staff proved to be just enough to carry it to a 2-1 victory over the Crusaders to capture their third consecutive Class 2A sectional championship on Monday.

Cardinal Ritter and Park Tudor met twice during the regular baseball season with the Panthers coming out on top on both occasions. The outcome did not prove to be any different when they met for the third time in the sectional, much to the dismay of Crusader followers.

After his team got off to one of the best starts in school history, Vince Purichia finds himself trying to guide a ship that has drifted a tad off course. The Cardinal Ritter Raiders are now trying to find smoother sailing as it heads toward the middle of the baseball season with hopes of navigating toward success in the posteseason.
