Rebels senior Marie Kegley is facing a tall order these days as she prepares for double duty of sorts as she leads her team into girls tennis sectional competition with a chance to win its fourth straight while also wanting to register a win for her second-year coach, who just happens to be her sister. Loye Kegley is a 2004 graduate of Roncalli High School who went on to a record-setting career at Marian University. Kegley sees the Rebels on track as it heads towards its last regular season match against Beech Grove before sectional competition gets under way at Franklin. Marie Kegley plays number-one singles while sophomore Macey Speer competes at number-two singles and freshman Sydney Wells rounds out the singles at number three. The number-one doubles team consists of junior Kati Anderson and sophomore Alex Servie while number-two doubles is played by junior Christina Ancelet and freshman Lauren Webb. Rebels awaits next week's sectional Roncalli awaits the pairing for the Franklin Central Sectional that starts on May 20 that includes the host Flashes, Beech Grove and Franklin Community. Franklin Central defeated Roncalli during the regular, but Kegley is confident her team can bounce back in the sectional. "We have had some tight matches this season but have managed to get some good wins too," Loye Kegley said. "We are right where I expected we would be at this point in the season. The girls will be ready come sectional." The Rebels are coming off a win at the Franklin Invite, where it defeated Bishop Chatard, Greensburg and host Franklin Community,. The team also has registered wins against Scecina Memorial, Ben Davis, Whiteland and Cardinal Ritter. "I am really proud of our girls and how they have played and improved with each match," Loye Kegley said. "I think it has been a pretty successful season." Loye Kegley is most impressed by how well the team has competed with only one senior and three upperclassmen leading the team. "Our underclassmen have really stepped it up this year," Loye Kegley said. "The younger players have displayed a mental toughness as the season has progressed to where they are able to stay in a point longer and rally to win it. They have been able to shake the nerves from earlier in the season." Loye enjoys coaching her sister The Indiana High School Athletic Association will have its draw on Monday for the girls tennis sectional, but Loye Kegley said her team will be ready to play whoever it gets. "We have won it three years in a row and know teams will be gunning for us," Loye Kegley said. "I know our girls would like to win it for a fourth straight year." Loye Kegley has to hope that the journey through the rest of the regular season and beyond is as smooth as her relationship to her sister and team member, Marie. "It has been great to have her on the team because she is a really hard worker and pushes herself to get better, and I really enjoy having her on the team," Loye Kegley said. "We have never had any tough situations with my sister or with any of the girls. I feel that I have been very fortunate."
