Switzerland County scored two runs in the top of the first inning and added five runs in the second, and the seven-run lead proved too much for Scecina Memorial to overcome as the softball regional host Crusaders eventually lost 7-4 at Brookside Park on Tuesday. Five consecutive Pacers players each reached first base, and Switzerland County was helped when two pop ups were dropped in the infield, allowing runners to score. The Pacers left just two runners on base, a stat that helped the team win its first-ever softball regional title. The Crusaders had runners on second and third with two outs in the bottom of the first when Kayla Craft hit a slow rolling ball in the infield that was picked up and the throw to first beat the runner to end the inning and the scoring threat. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Scecina scored its first run when it hit three consecutive singles that led to a run by Kimberly Strattman. Senior Ty Bremer's triple led off the fifth inning for Scecina Memorial and she scored on a homerun hit over right centerfield by Colleen Asher to make it 7-3. The Crusaders added its next run in the sixth, but a strikeout by Sarah Catton ended the inning with two runners left on base. It would be the last scoring threat of the game for Scecina Memorial. Scecina finished the season with a 20-13 record. Switzerland County continues its season with a 19-8 mark.
