Class 2A No. 2 Cardinal Ritter scores an impressive win over Class 3A No. 1 ranked and previously unbeaten Bishop Chatard, Cathedral rolls over Fort Wayne Dwenger, Heritage Christian more than doubles the score on Shenandoah while Guerin Catholic earns its first win of the season. Read on for the highlights.

Cardinal Ritter 56, Bishop Chatard 33

After such a convincing win over Bishop Chatard, most Cardinal Ritter fans will be wondering if the Raiders will end up the top ranked team in Class 2A on Monday. Cardinal Ritter quarterback Jake Purichia reached the offensive stratosphere, rushing for four touchdowns and 126 yards, while passing for 311 yards and three more touchdowns as Cardinal Ritter beat the Trojans 56-33. The win marked the first victory for Cardinal Ritter over Bishop Chatard since 1987.

Purichia scored touchdowns on runs of 8, 20, 9, and 9 yards respectively. He also threw 12 passes to Alex Parrett for 178 yards. Pete Hartley ran for 220 yards and three touchdowns for the Trojans while Jack Busald caught seven passes for 69 yards.

Next week the 5-0 Raiders take on Indiana Crossroads Conference opponent Triton Central (3-2) at Marion University. Bishop Chatard will face Cincinnati Elder (2-1) at Lawrence North High School.

Cathedral 42, Fort Wayne Dwenger 7

The Class 4A No. 5 Irish (2-3) got back into the win column with a strong win over the visiting Saints (2-4) Quarterback Connor Rice threw for 230 yards and two touchdown passes, connecting with Wyatt Wood on a 25-yard pass in the second quarter and a 40-yard pass to Sampson Levington in the third quarter. Runningback Gino Gillum scored three rushing touchdowns on runs of 2, 9, and 7 yards respectively. John Hummel added another touchdown in the fourth quarter with a 30-yard run to round out the Irish scoring.

Next week, the Irish take on Louisville Trinity(3-0), one of the top high school teams in the U.S., in an 8:15 p.m. game at Lucas Oil Stadium on Sept. 21.  

Guerin Catholic 10, Arsenal Tech 7

The Golden Eagles achieved its first win of the season, on the road no less, against the Arsenal Tech Titans (3-1). Guerin Catholic trailed at halftime 7-3 after George Papas kicked a 19-yard field goal. Guerin took the lead in the third quarter when quarterback Michael Myers threw a 31-yard touchdown pass to Drew Danke.

Myers looked strong, completing 20 of 28 passes for 178 yards. He completed five passes to Daniel Murray for 46 yards, four passes to Casey Virgin for 48 yards and three passes to Denke for 57 yards. Denke also rushed for 71 yards on 17 carries while Sammy Adams gained 87 yards on a single run.

The schedule stays tough for the Eagles as they take on Class 4A No. 7 and unbeaten Greenwood High School at home at 7 p.m. Sept. 21. 

Heritage Christian 51, Shenandoah 20

Matt Hunt again put on an offensive clinic for the Eagles, passing for 362 yards and seven touchdowns in a convincing 51-20 win over Shenandoah (3-2). Hunt also rushed for 112 yards on 10 carries. Hunt's favorite receiver Friday night was Ames Walker, who caught six passes for 158 yards and five touchdowns. He scored first on a 55-yard bomb in the second quarter, then caught passes of 11, 45, 33 and39 yards respectively.

Anthony Warrum caught eight passes for 178 and one touchdown. Hunt also tossed a 6-yard touchdown pass to Jordan Miller. Next Friday, Heritage Christian travels to Beech Grove (3-2) to take on the Hornets in a 7 p.m. game Sept. 21.
