Cathedral had one of its best games of the season for shooting three-pointers to run away to its 10th straight win this season before a near-capacity crowd in a high school boys basketball contest on Thursday night.

The Class 4A, No. 13 Irish hit three consecutive three-pointers and added a three-point play to take an early 14-2 lead in the first quarter and did not stop as it dominated Roncalli with its outside shooting while holing off several rallies by the host Rebels.

Senior forward Jake Boggess' put back off a missed shot cut the Irish lead to 22-17 with 3:27 remaining in the first half, but Cathedral hit two more three-pointers, eventually opening up a 31-21 lead at halftime. The Rebels did pull within six points in the third quarter, but it would not get any closer as the Irish pulled away for a 65-47 win as Roncalli lost only for the second time on its home court this season.

The overwhelming stat that stands out in this game is the three-point shooting advantage by the Irish who was 15-for--27 from behind the arc while Roncalli managed to hit only two. Cathedral did record 15 assists in the game.

Cathedral head coach Andy Fagan said his players spend a lot of time on its offense and it is paying off. Fagan said one of the things he liked about his team is how it handled the atmosphere on the road. "We do not get caught up in the environment and do a good job staying disciplined."

The loss for the Rebels marked the first time in seven years that Roncalli experienced a double-figure loss on its home floor. The Rebels last double-figure loss ocurred Jan 28, 2006, against the Greenwood High School Woodmen. Roncalli head coach Mike Wantz said the team fought hard, but simply didn't make the big plays.

"They followed our game plan, but the plan didn't work. This was our first taste of speed and size and the kind of really good players that you see in the sectionals," Wantz said.

Indiana University recruit Collin Hartman led the Irish with 17 points while Justin Baker added 14. Senior center Michael Clements scored 16 points to lead the Rebels while Boggess chipped in 13 and Cam Smoke had 10 points.
