The young Heritage Christian Eagles nearly upset No. 1 ranked and defending state champions Evansville Mater Dei in the Class 2A semistate at Bedford, but the Wildcats prevailed in overtime 56-49.

The No. 2 ranked Eagles trailed by 5 35-30 as the fourth quarter began. But they took the lead 38-37 when sophomore Syndey Hall scored five quick points on two successive plays, first on three-point shot and then a jumper with 5:53 remaining. From that point on it was a seesaw battle.  Heritage Christian had a chance to win the game in regulation, but sophomore Peyton Fallis' three-point shot just missed as the buzzer sounded. Mater Dei pulled away in the overtime, going on a 7-0 run to end the game.

"It was a toss-up either way," said Heritage Christian coach Rick Risinger in a post-game interview. "It was two real good teams going after each other. We have nothing to be ashamed of. Their size bothered us a little, but we came back and fought and we had a chance to win it a couple of times. It was a good, old Indiana basketball game."

Hall lead the scoring attack for the Eagles with 16 points, including three 3-pointers.
