Cam Smock and Michael Clements proved to be double trouble against New Palestine.

Roncalli outscored the visiting Dragons 15-7 in the third quarter and looked in control of the game. Then New Palestine put together a scoring spurt with five unanswered points to tie the game at 39 with 3:35 left to play.

Clements, who had only one free throw in a quiet first half, snatched a rebound in the air and put it back through the hoop to give the host Rebels a 41-39 lead with 2:05 remaining and the Rebels never looked back on the way to its second straight win and third in four games.

New Palestine had several possessions with a chance to tie the game or take the lead late in the fourth quarter, but the Rebels defense and hustle led to two free throws by junior guard Cam Smock before senior Robbie Prather swished a three-pointer to make it 46-39 with 56.2 seconds left in the game and forcing New Palestine to call a timeout.

Roncalli head coach Mike Wantz wasn't happy that his team did not hold onto the lead, but liked how it bounced back to make the big plays.

"We lost the lead in the last three minutes of the game, but we were able to make plays, hit free throws and hit that big shot at the end of the game," Wantz said.

Wantz said Smock made several good passes that led to baskets late in the game and added how one can tell that he plays quarterback on the football team on how well he ran the team.

The win marks the 11th straight home victory for the Rebels in January. Their last home loss in the month came in a 43-38 loss to Zionsville on January 24, 2009. Smock scored a career-high 18 points while Clements added 13. Junior David Holtkamp chipped in 10.
